I want to talk today about a topic that is very popular… yet it’s also very unpopular among some people…
CALORIE COUNTING.
I know that some people swear by calorie counting as a great way to help them lose weight… while others despise it.
So, what’s the truth? Is calorie counting good or bad?

That’s something I’ll dive into in today’s video… but let me just say that it really depends on how you use calorie counting.
Some people find calorie counting to be helpful so they can see a rough estimate of how many calories they are taking in versus how many calories they are burning every day.
For example, you might not realize that even though you’re “eating healthy” during your meals… if you have a few snacks that are not very good for you… you could actually be taking in hundreds or even thousands of calories you don’t realize!
So in that way, counting the calories you consume during a day can help you better understand what you’re taking into your body.
You can also track how many calories you burn when you do certain types of exercise… so you can see how many calories you consume versus how many you burn.

However, some people do NOT like calorie counting at all. This might be because it makes them overly conscious about what they eat… and could even lead to disordered thinking about food… or in extreme cases, could contribute to an eating disorder.

So today’s question is:
How do you feel about counting calories? Is it effective? Is it ineffective?
So wow, that is a great question! Very important.

And first of all, let me say that not all calories are created equal. So the most important thing to remember is that you want to eat nutrient-dense foods.
You want to make sure that you’re getting antioxidants… lots of protein… and not too many carbs—especially bad carbs—that will of course, turn to sugar and then into fat.
And you also want to remember that fundamentally, what you put in is something that needs to come out. So you’re looking to burn calories, so the total calorie count is important.
Your age, your gender, your overall size, your height, and your build will determine how many calories you should have in a day. But in general, adults should have about 2,000 calories in a day.
If you’re in more of a fitness mode, you can maybe go down to 1,500… but anything below that is not a safe level.
