Culturelle Digestive Health Probiotic: An Honest Review...

1. What Are Culturelle Probiotics?

Culturelle is a super popular probiotic supplement that’s available in multiple different forms, according to one Culturelle probiotics review.

You can purchase this product in capsule form, in powdered form or in chewable form, which means it’s really versatile and there’s an option for everyone!

Specifically, Culturelle aims to help with our digestive system and contains Lactobacillus GG. What’s that, I’m sure you’re wondering?

Well, to put it simply, this is a widely used probiotic that can help prevent infections, diarrhea and more. It’s also believed to help prevent certain allergic symptoms!

The ingredients in Culturelle probiotics (which we’ll get into in just a minute) are proven to help with our digestive health. This product in particular may help with occasional diarrhea, gas and bloating. Sounds pretty useful to me!

2. How Do Culturelle Probiotics Work?

You take Culturelle probiotics daily and it’s believed to be able to take effect as soon as 48 hours after you begin!

Culturelle digestive health probiotic helps to restore health to your body’s natural immune system.

Fun Fact: 70% of your body’s immune system is located in your gut, according to the company website, so promoting good gut health is essential to promoting a healthy immune system!

Like many probiotic supplements, Culturelle works by promoting “good bacteria” to grow inside your gut — these are the kinds of bacteria that fight off pathogens, help break down food properly to aid in digestion, and much more!

To put it simply, this product works because of what it contains. Lactobacillus Rhamnosus GG (LGG) has been proven to “survive harsh stomach acids” all the way to our intestines, according to a Culturelle probiotics explanation.

According to Culturelle, LGG is the #1 clinically-studied probiotic on the market, a claim that stands up to scrutiny.

This probiotic strain was actually the first Lactobacillus strain to be patented, way back in 1989, because of how well it could survive the stomach acid found in our guts.

In addition, probiotics like the LGG in Culturelle Digestive Daily Probiotics also help by outcompeting the bad bacteria that cause infections, inflammation, bowel irritation, gas and bloating, etc.

The product is intended for long-term use and its aim is to keep our gut health balanced! Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

3. What Are the Benefits of Culturelle Probiotics?

Culturelle digestive health probiotic is one of the most popular names in the probiotic game for a reason. Let’s review some of the benefits of this supplement.

1) Helps Alleviate Antibiotic-Associated Diarrhea

Research has shown that probiotics (and LGG in particular) can help reduce the duration and severity of antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) and gastrointestinal distress.

This effect is found to be primarily beneficial to children, according to systematic review of twelve randomized controlled trials.

2) Improved Immune Function

Culturelle probiotics help to support your body’s immune system in several ways. The main active ingredient, LGG, is able to inhibit many pathogens that are commonly associated with our food and gut health, such as several species of Salmonella.

LGG also promotes immune-responsiveness by reducing inflammation and promoting the creation of anti-inflammatory cytokines (basically protein strains that help with your immune system).

3) Improved Intestinal Barrier Function

One common cause of gastrointestinal distress is an ailment called Leaky Gut Syndrome (yuck!).

LGS is caused by inflammation and irritation of the intestinal lining as a result of poor gut health. Leaky Gut can cause gas, bloating, and even disease because pathogens that are supposed to stay in your GI tract “leak” out into other parts of your body where they shouldn’t be.

LGG has been shown to improve the barrier function of your intestines to help reduce LGS and promote better gut health.

4) Cost-Efficient

Probiotic supplements can be pricey! Not to mention how expensive it is to try and get your probiotics through food (such as eating a Greek yogurt every morning).

However, Culturelle Dietary Daily Probiotic is fairly inexpensive at around $25 for a 30 pack or $40 for a 60-day supply on Amazon as of the time of this writing.

5) Nearly Anyone Can Use Culturelle!

According to the company website and packaging, Culturelle probiotics are doctor recommended, dairy-free, egg-free, peanut-free, gluten-free, soy-free, vegetarian AND vegan, which means most people can safely enjoy the benefits of this daily supplement.

As always, be sure to consult with your doctor before introducing any new supplements or medications.

4. Specific Ingredients in Culturelle Probiotics

What, exactly, is in Culturelle probiotics? It’s pretty simple. The two main ingredients are 40mg of Lactobacillus GG — or 10 billion colony-forming units — and inulin, also known as chicory root extract.

Lactobacillus Rhamnosus GG

As mentioned above, LGG is one of the most heavily studied probiotic strains in existence, with scientific evidence dating back to at least 1989 when it was patented.

LGG has been shown in numerous clinical trials of both humans and animal studies to be effective in combating numerous problems related to your gut and digestive health. These include irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD), and intestinal barrier function dysfunction.

Inulin (Chicory Root Extract)

Also known as chicory root extract, Culturelle probiotics have 200 mg of Inulin, which is great for promoting healthy digestion and can help with constipation.

Inulin acts as a prebiotic. “Prebiotic” is a broad term for fermentable fibers that probiotic bacteria (like LGG) use as food to help them survive and multiply within your gut.

Inulin also has a number of potential beneficial effects on its own aside from being a great food source for LGG.

Because inulin is a fiber, it can help you feel full for longer periods of time (because fibers take a long time to digest) to help weight loss and prevent obesity.

Like other prebiotics, inulin may also support bone health by improving calcium absorption.

Lastly, there is some evidence to suggest that inulin may aid in blood sugar regulation to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.

5. Is It Gluten and Dairy Free?

Culturelle probiotics is gluten and dairy free, according to one review. It doesn’t have preservatives, dairy, gluten, yeast, lactose or synthetic colors, making it a really natural way to help improve your body!

6. Are There Vitamins in Culturelle Probiotics

According to Culturelle probiotics reviews, this product doesn’t contain a lot of vitamins. It does have sodium ascorbate, which is one specific compound out of various mineral salts of ascorbic acid (which is Vitamin C).

It’s really good for both chronic and acute infections and may help prevent cancer. Vitamin C is an essential vitamin for our bodies and this particular compound will help with the immune system, improve your skin and more!

If you’re looking to boost your vitamin intake, there is also the option of adding on multivitamins from the same company. One new item is a mix of probiotic and multivitamins – They’ve also got options for children!

The multivitamin option contains Vitamins A, C, D, E, B6 and B12, among others. There’s a total of 10 vitamins and minerals, and this option is vegan-friendly, according to its website!

7. What Probiotics Are In Culturelle Probiotics?

As noted earlier, the traditional Culturelle probiotics is chalk full of Lactobacillus GG.

This probiotic was originally found back in 1985 from the intestinal tract of a healthy individual. This means that it’s friendly bacteria found naturally in our gut.

Lactobacillus GG is shown to treat more than just diarrhea, which we had mentioned. Specifically, it’s also helpful for preventing cavities. This probiotics is known as a “super-probiotic strain,” according to a Culturelle probiotics review

8. What Prebiotics Are In Culturelle Probiotics?

Does this product contain any prebiotics? Inulin, the other main ingredient in Culturelle probiotics, is a prebiotic.

This ingredient is basically a fibre that’s often found in plants. Like other prebiotics, its job is to help feed our body’s good bacteria.

This means that when it’s combined with a probiotic like Lactobacillus GG, we’re more likely to see positive changes in our gut health! Inulin can be used to help promote weight loss, reduce constipation and you can toss it as a food additive for taste.

9. How Do Culturelle Probiotics Work?

You take Culturelle probiotics daily and it’s believed to be able to take effect as soon as 48 hours after you begin!

10. Are Culturelle Probiotics Effective?

Now for one of the big questions: Is this product effective? This Culturelle probiotics review included multiple studies explaining the effectiveness of Lactobacillus GG. In particular, the three studies noted reduced diarrhea for those who consumed the probiotic.

The product also has very good reviews on various websites, including Costco and CVS.

11. Any Potential Side Effects?

There are some potential side effects, but typically they go away after the first few days of consuming the product. Mild cases of gas and bloating have been reported in the early days of using Culturelle probiotics, but its website writes that this is common and will subside.

Basically, our bodies need to adjust to the new product. It makes sense – this product is designed to get in there and make some positive changes!

12. Culturelle Probiotics Cost

Culturelle probiotics is one of the more affordable options out there, which makes it another really good option if you’re looking to start adding a probiotic supplement to your everyday life.

Culturelle probiotics is also great because it can be purchased at a lot of places. You can go straight to the website, or shop stores including Amazon, CVS, Target, The Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, Walgreens, Costco, Walmart and more!

14. Customer Complaints and Customer Support Offered By Culturelle Probiotics

Culturelle probiotics has a phone number for customer support. You can also contact their customer support via their website, where you can send an email.

Some reviews complain that this product is not effective for the long-term and one individual said that the probiotic resulted in a yeast infection. The vast majority of reviews, however, are positive.

15. Overall Take On The Product

Overall, this product has been highly rated (and often rated). It’s easy to get, it’s affordable, and the ingredients it contains have been extremely well researched.

This seems to be a great product, especially for those suffering from diarrhea issues.

I would recommend starting on a product like this because it isn’t as expansive as some other probiotic supplements, so perhaps it’s a good option to get a feeler on what kind of supplement you’d like to take and what your body needs.

As always, don’t begin taking any supplements without approval from an official doctor.

The ingredients in Culturelle probiotics are simple, proven to be effective, and natural. This seems like a pretty great product to get a jump start on your health!
