Beans are an oddly misunderstood food. This is probably due to the ways they’re usually prepared: smothered in sauce, refried, or mixed into a chili.

And while all of these options have their place… they’re not the healthiest on the menu.

But beans—especially pinto beans—have a lot more to offer than carrying a delicious sauce or rounding out a chili. Pinto beans pack a pretty good nutritional punch. On top of that, they bring a ton of fiber to any meal.

Pinto Beans Are High In Nutrients

When most people think of beans in terms of dietary impact… they probably think of the food’s carbohydrates. Or they think of the low fat content.

When it comes to pinto beans, however… you should be thinking of nutrients. Just one cup of pinto beans will give you more than 15% of your daily value of magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, and manganese!

Each of these nutrients have their own benefits. Yes, you could get all these nutrients from a multivitamin.

But it’s always a good idea to choose balanced, healthy foods as a base before turning to supplements. And in this case pinto beans make that easy.

Magnesium

Your body needs magnesium.

Several important functions all rely on magnesium. These range from regulating blood sugar levels… to helping your body produce new protein (such as muscles).

Phosphorus

While magnesium’s uses are fairly easy to describe, phosphorus’s function is a little less obvious. Every cell in your body contains phosphorus.

The cells use phosphorus to produce energy and perform other functions on a cellular level. All of these functions keep your cells running… which in turn keeps your body running.

Potassium

When it comes to important minerals, potassium is at the top of the list. Your body uses it to keep your heart and kidneys running.

It’s also one of the key nutrients your nervous system uses to keep signals flowing. And everything your body does… from its heart beat to its breathing to its movement… relies on nerve signals.

Iron

Just about everyone knows how important iron is to your body. You use it to make new blood, keep older blood clean, and carry oxygen to your muscles.

Most people meet their dietary iron needs through red meat. But if you want to cut back on your red meat (or meat altogether)… then pinto beans are a great plant-based source of iron.

Manganese

Like magnesium, manganese is a mineral that our bodies mostly use at the cellular level. When your cells become damaged, manganese is one of the elements used to repair them.

On a more surface leve,l your body uses manganese to clot blood when you’re injured. The nutrient is also part of a healthy reproductive system and a strong immune system.

Pinto Beans Are High In Fiber

The nutritional content of pinto beans is nothing to scoff at. But it’s only part of what they offer.

One cup of pinto beans offers 62% of your daily dietary fiber needs! One serving of Metamucil, for comparison, has only 21% of your daily value of fiber.

Fiber is essential for a healthy diet. More than that, it is essential for a healthy body.

It affects everything from your appetite to your blood sugar levels. So you’ll want to make sure you get plenty of it in your daily diet.

Helps Control Blood Sugar

As just about any diabetic will tell you, fiber helps keep your sugar levels stable. This is in part because your body take time to break fiber down… so any sugar tied up with the fiber doesn’t drop into your bloodstream all at once.

Fiber also slows the absorption of sugar into the blood. Even if the sugar doesn’t enter the body with the fiber… it takes longer for your blood to absorb it.

The longer it takes for the sugar to enter the blood, the more easily your body handles it.

May Aid In Weight Loss

I mentioned earlier that fiber affects your appetite. This, in turn, may help some people lose weight.

High fiber foods help you feel full faster… and they keep your feeling full longer than low-fiber foods do. This leads to a less active appetite so you end up eating less.

When you get your fiber from nutritious sources like pinto beans… you’re creating a real win-win situation. You get a large dose of fiber that keeps you feeling full.

At the same time, you’re giving your body the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and perform better.

Helps Regulate Digestion

Fiber is important for your health. But your body has to put in a little extra work to digest it. And as the fiber is broken down, it stimulates your digestive system.

While it’s doing this, it is binding up the other food you’ve eaten. And, as unpleasant as it might be to think about… this is what makes your movements more ‘regular’.

It’s why fiber helps when you’re backed up or having certain stomach issues.

The Takeaway

Pinto beans are very rarely anyone’s favorite food.

How Eating More Beans (And More Of THIS Type Of Food) Can Help You Lose Weight Faster…

LIke I mentioned, adding pinto beans to your diet can help you lose weight.

And while their high fiber content is partially to thank for that (since it keeps you feeling full & moves your digestive system along)…

There’s something else that really plays a crucial role in how these beans can help you shed pounds:
