Losing weight doesn’t have to be a huge task. Don’t view it as climbing a mountain… because it’s not!

Having small ideas allows you to stay focused. Also, smaller goals are much easier to reach than a general, huge goal like “lose weight and become healthier.”
When you have five or six small things that help you lose weight… it makes the overall idea of weight loss and living a healthier lifestyle more attainable. It’s like tricking your brain!
Sounds pretty cool, right?
Now, for the big question … What are some of these smaller weight loss ideas that will make dieting easier for us all? Give me the magic answer!!
While there’s no magic answer, there are literally so many ways to make dieting easier for us all. Let me give you just a few, and then you can really fly!
1) Use a smaller plate.
This is a really great mind trick!
You know that saying “your eyes are bigger than your stomach?” Well, this is kind of accurate.
A lot of times, you just eat what’s in front of you—and a lot of that is because of how HUGE most plates are!!

Who wants to eat a DELICIOUS dinner and see giant empty spaces on their plate? That’s just going to make me want more food (maybe you’re the same way).
Well, putting your food on a smaller plate will trick your brain because you are seeing a full plate. This really helps to prevent overeating and teaches you how to properly portion your meals.
2) Add in treats.
One of the most important things is allowing yourself to have a little fun. The moment dieting becomes some horrible chore… is the moment you’re going to really struggle to have success.
So, cut yourself some slack.
Do you have a sweet tooth? That’s fine, I do!
With my sweet tooth, I allow myself a little treat sometimes. What I do differently than in the past, though… is that now I make my treat a lot smaller.

3) Use a shopping list.
Make your shopping list when you’ve already eaten, so you aren’t tempted to grab those chips or cookies as you go through the grocery store.
Also, stick to your list! Go into the grocery store with a purpose, and stick to that purpose.
It’s so easy when you don’t have a list to just wander through and pick out things that look yummy… but probably aren’t great for you.
By making a list beforehand and sticking to it, you take away that part of the equation… and end up eating better!
4) Distract yourself.
Are you a boredom snacker? Or maybe a stress eater?
Well, let me tell you, I am all of that and more. How do I combat that?
I try to distract myself.
For example, the moment I get really bored at work… instead of heading to the break room for some chips, I go on a walk.

Half of the battle with boredom or stress eating is just tricking your mind into being busy!
5) Don’t keep unhealthy foods at home.
Sometimes, I am really, really craving unhealthy food. Then, I look in my kitchen cupboards and don’t see any!
Am I going to go through all the trouble to leave the house… go shopping… and get that unhealthy food? This is a lot of trouble for one craving, so probably not.
Besides having the occasional dessert (to indulge yourself with), try not to keep unhealthy foods at home. And, when you do (for the indulging moments)… keep them small so you can never overindulge!
Now, when I really want something salty, I go for my peanuts instead of the bag of chips that I don’t keep in the house!
So, when you look at this list, are these some attainable ideas to implement? For sure!
They’re all small, simple changes to your everyday life. Try to make a list of small changes like this and remind yourself of it every single day during your weight loss journey.
Not only will it make the healthy lifestyle goal more attainable, but it will make your life far easier!
How To Avoid Unnecessary Weight Gain While Under COVID-19 Quarantine
The other day on Instagram I saw someone write this caption… “Now that we’re all stuck inside, is it cool if we all gain 15 lbs collectively and just don’t mention it?”
And while it DID make me laugh… it’s also more than a little relatable. ?
However, even while we’re cooped up inside… can’t make it to the gym… and won’t have access to the freshest produce, and the foods we’d normally get in the store…
There is one REALLY easy way to avoid packing on the pounds… without counting your calories, doing “macro math” or attempting workout videos online nonstop for three hours a day:
A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that by boosting your protein intake by 15-30%, you can burn up to 441 more calories per day.
And fortunately, LOTS of pantry staples you probably already have at home are chock-full of protein:
- 1 ounce of almonds contains 6 grams of protein…
- 1 cup of baked beans contains 14 grams…
- 1 cup of boiled lentils contains 18 grams(!)…
So simply by adding a few tablespoons of these protein-rich foods to what you already eat, you can easily boost your metabolism… feel fuller for longer… and avoid giving into any “stress eating” impulses you may be experiencing in these uncertain times.
Plus, adding them to the right dishes can make them taste even better!
Here’s the incredible science behind exactly how protein helps you lose weight faster (without risking your health by exercising outside, or going to the gym)…
